A letter from a proud father who DEPTH assisted in obtaining a Division I scholarship:
I am the father of a graduating high school senior who has been recruited and accepted at the US Naval Academy to play running back this fall (2005). My son Trevor's success in gaining admission to a Division One football program was definitely aided in no small part through the counsel and efforts of Coach Brian McNeely. I offer this letter of endorsement based on my belief that we would not have gotten this opportunity and scholarship without his support.
First and foremost, Coach McNeely gave us an honest and constructive assessment of our son Trevor's strengths, weakness and areas of improvement based on a questionnaire and highlight film we submitted at the end of his junior year. This detailed analysis of Trevor's skills included a realistic ranking of his potential in the open market and helped us as parents to work with our son to set goals and expectations. He also talked with Trevor to understand where his thoughts were on football and offered encouragement to both him and my wife. Our high school football coach agreed with Coach McNeely's assessment and we all worked together to help Trevor improve his odds. Trevor ran for over 1000 yards as a junior and was probably a good Division II prospect. With weight and speed training as recommended by Coach McNeely, our son was able to gain 20 pounds and drop his forty time to a respectable 4.6 seconds.
Next, Coach McNeely explained how the process worked and advised us to make an early senior season highlight tape and develop a list of target schools. We followed this advice and sent 12 tapes to schools that Trevor selected and three to the US Military Academies as Brian recommended. In all cases we were encouraged, and by the end of the season Trevor had run 2,365 yards and accepted a direct appointment to Annapolis.

child, navigate the complex, and often fickle, college recruiting process.
